According to Bloomberg, Apple has made personnel changes in its Siri division. Mike Rockwell, previously in charge of Vision Pro development, will take over from John Giannandrea as the new head of AI and Siri operations. This shift comes shortly after Apple delayed the launch of its much-anticipated AI features.
The report indicates that Apple CEO Tim Cook lost confidence in Giannandrea's ability to lead AI development. Earlier this month, in a statement to Daring Fireball, Apple announced it would postpone the generative AI upgrade for Siri until "next year," citing that the development was taking "longer than expected." Following this, Bloomberg reported on a tense meeting within the Siri team, during which Apple Senior Director Robbie Walker described the current state of the AI project as "terrible."
In this organizational reshuffle, Giannandrea will no longer oversee the Siri team. Meanwhile, Paula Midgley, who previously led the hardware engineering division under Rockwell’s guidance for Vision Pro, will step into the role of leading the Vision Pro group.
