LG AI Research officially announced a major milestone - the launch of EXAONE 3.0, the first open-source AI model in South Korea. This signifies South Korea's official entry into the forefront of the AI era, led by global tech giants and emerging forces. EXAONE 3.0 is an open-source model based on the cutting-edge Decoder-only Transformer architecture. With a parameter scale of 7.8 billion and a massive training dataset of 80 trillion tokens, it is specifically designed for bilingual environments in English and Korean. This achievement not only showcases LG's profound expertise in AI technology but also provides a powerful tool for the global AI research community. LG AI Research emphasized in their official press release, "We are proud to announce that the 7.8 billion instruction-adjusted model in the EXAONE 3.0 series is now open-source, aiming to promote communication and collaboration among global AI researchers and collectively push the boundaries of AI technology. We believe that the release of this model will inject new vitality into domestic and international research projects and accelerate the prosperous development of the AI ecosystem." According to the official test results, EXAONE 3.0 demonstrates outstanding performance in multiple dimensions. Its English proficiency ranks among the "global top tier" and consistently outperforms many well-known models, including Llama 3.0 8B and Gemma 2 9B, in real-world application scenarios. Additionally, EXAONE 3.0 excels in complex tasks such as mathematical calculations, programming code comprehension, and logical reasoning, leading the industry in average scores. Notably, in the field of Korean language processing, EXAONE 3.0 lives up to expectations, achieving top scores in both practical use cases and single benchmark tests, showcasing its profound expertise in local language processing. Furthermore, LG revealed that compared to its predecessor, EXAONE 3.0 has achieved significant optimizations in efficiency and cost control. Specifically, its inference time has been reduced by 56%, memory usage decreased by 35%, and overall operational costs have been astonishingly reduced by 72%. Compared to the initial release of EXAONE 1.0, its cost efficiency has also improved by 6%, demonstrating LG's relentless efforts in continuously optimizing AI model performance and cost structure. It is reported that EXAONE 3.0 has completed training on over 60 million professional data cases in fields such as patents, code, mathematics, and chemistry. LG plans to expand this number to 100 million in the coming months to further enrich its knowledge base and enhance the model's generalization ability and practical application value.
