Fiction writers, take note: OpenAI might just have you in its sights.
In a post on the X platform this Tuesday, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman revealed that the company has trained a "new model" that shows remarkable prowess in creative writing. He shared an extended sample generated from the prompt, "Please write a short metafiction story about AI and sadness."
"It’s still unclear how or when this model will be released," Altman stated, "but this is the first time I've been truly moved by something written by an AI; it perfectly captures the essence of metafiction."
Crafting novels isn't typically an area where OpenAI has ventured before. Traditionally, the company has concentrated on more structured and predictable domains such as mathematics and programming. This foray into narrative writing suggests that OpenAI may believe its latest model has made significant strides in literary composition. Historically, AI hasn't proven to be particularly talented at prose writing.
