Microsoft Bing Launches Deep Search: A New Feature Expanding Queries with GPT-4

2023-12-06

Microsoft is preparing a new feature for Bing that eliminates the need for users to write their own AI prompts. This feature, called Deep Search, extends your Bing queries using GPT-4 to provide multiple topic-related answers to your questions. For example, Microsoft demonstrated how Bing can transform a vague search query like "How does Japan's point system work?" into a detailed prompt: - Explaining the details of various loyalty card programs in Japan, including benefits, requirements, and limitations. - Providing examples of popular loyalty cards in different categories such as convenience stores, supermarkets, and restaurants. - Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of using loyalty cards versus other payment methods in Japan, including current rewards and benefits. - Highlighting the most popular services and participating merchants. Bing may further expand this search to include descriptions of immigration policies and public transportation costs, as GPT-4 aims to "find all possible intents of the query." Any topic suggested by Bing will be displayed in a panel on the search results page. Users can choose the most relevant one, and Deep Search will plan its search results based on the "degree of match with the comprehensive description." Microsoft stated that performing a Deep Search may take up to 30 seconds, but users can continue to use Bing's standard search functionality if they prefer not to wait. While announcing support for OpenAI's GPT-Turbo model with Copilot, Microsoft also revealed Deep Search. Currently, Deep Search is only an experiment and is available to a small number of users. However, I am excited to try it out. Sometimes, writing a prompt for AI itself can be a task that contradicts the purpose of using it to enhance productivity.
