AWS Releases App Studio for Building Business Applications with Natural Language

2024-11-19

AWS has announced the public launch of AWS App Studio, its generative AI-powered application development tool. Designed to assist users in quickly creating applications by describing the desired type in natural language, App Studio eliminates the need for any coding expertise.

AWS App Studio was initially released as a preview in July this year. It is intended to help professionals swiftly develop internal software tools. For instance, marketing teams can use it to create applications for managing creative assets in advertising campaigns, while IT teams can build applications to track maintenance requests for employee workstations.

Users can simply enter a brief text prompt detailing the type and purpose of the application they wish to build, or provide a more comprehensive feature overview. Based on this input, App Studio generates a detailed list of application features and interface suggestions. Users can review this list, add new functionalities, or refine the interface with additional prompts. Once configured, App Studio can build a new application within minutes. Furthermore, users can customize the interface using drag-and-drop tools, effortlessly adding or removing elements.

Moreover, the tool supports integrating AI-generated applications with external services, such as configuring a revenue tracking application to extract sales data from systems like Salesforce or Amazon S3 repositories.

After building the application, users can test its functionality and deploy it to the production environment with simple operations. Following deployment, App Studio generates a unique access link for the application. To maintain security, role-based access control can be applied, ensuring that only authorized employees can use the application.

The official release of AWS App Studio introduces several new features, the most noteworthy being the ability for users to modify existing applications using natural language commands. After an application is generated and deployed, users can input change requests through a chatbot, preview the changes, and confirm updates.

Amazon has also added new functionalities that enhance applications with generative AI capabilities, including adding text summaries, content generation, and file analysis. Users can generate and incorporate custom business logic using natural language and personalize application themes and styles, such as switching between light and dark modes or selecting specific colors that align with their company’s branding.

AWS App Studio is currently available in the AWS regions of US West (Oregon) and Europe (Ireland), with plans to extend availability to additional regions in the future.

AWS positions App Studio as a more cost-effective option compared to existing low-code application development tools, and it is completely free to use. Users only pay for the time spent generating applications, with AWS claiming this can save up to 80% in costs compared to competitors' services. Additionally, new users can access newly generated applications for free within the first 60 days.
