Google Unveils New AI-Powered Video Creation Tool Google Vids for Workspace

2024-04-10

At the 2024 Cloud Next conference, Google unveiled a new application called Google Vids, aiming to be a powerful assistant for users in their work, supporting video production, writing, content creation, and editing. It is worth noting that Google positions Google Vids alongside classic applications like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, highlighting its importance. Google Vids features a clean and intuitive purple document icon with a prominent play button, immediately evoking its video editing capabilities. Interestingly, the name Google Vids may remind you of Google Video, the video service before YouTube's acquisition. This application operates in the cloud and offers a user-friendly interface, allowing easy sharing and collaboration with others. Its focus and goal are to help users tell better stories in their work environment, whether it's team retrospectives, announcement videos, or training clips. Google Vids provides robust support for these purposes. When using Google Vids, users simply need to input the prompt "Help me create a video" and describe their goals, target audience, and desired video length to start the creation process. To add or associate documents, users can input the "@" symbol and select the corresponding file from Google Drive. For example, users can input "Celebrate year-end updates for my company" and attach a "feature list" file as video material. Next, Google Vids generates an editable storyboard based on the user's description, allowing users to refine the story by rearranging, deleting, and adding content. Users can then choose a video style, and Google will use suggested scenes from its stock videos, images, and background music to create a first draft, including sound effects. The stock media library contains millions of high-quality assets to meet various user needs. In terms of video editing, Google Vids integrates a timeline and a video editor UI, utilizing AI-driven editing methods to make video production more efficient. Additionally, users can utilize the recording studio to assist with voiceover processes, capturing their own voice or selecting preset voices to add more personality to the video. Google states that Google Vids aims to help anyone become a great storyteller in their work. The application will evaluate user feedback after its initial release to determine whether to offer it more widely to non-Workspace enterprise customers. Storytelling is ubiquitous in daily work. Whether it's the HR department introducing the organization's mission to new employees, the training team creating digital learning experiences, or salespeople pitching product advantages to new clients, video is an essential and impactful medium. However, knowing where to start in video production can be a challenge for many. Google Vids is designed to address this problem. Google Vids will initially be available in Workspace Labs in June of this year. Let's look forward to this application bringing users a more convenient and efficient video production experience.
