埃隆·马斯克旗下的AI公司xAI近日宣布，其API新增了图像生成能力。
目前，该API仅支持一个名为“grok-2-image-1212”的模型。用户可以通过输入文字描述，每次请求生成最多10张JPG格式的图片，每秒最多可提交5次请求，单张图片的价格为0.07美元。
作为对比，xAI去年合作的一家AI初创公司Black Forest Labs曾在马斯克的社交平台X上推出过图像生成服务，其每张图片的收费约为0.05美元。而另一家知名图像模型提供商Ideogram的收费标准则高达0.08美元。
根据xAI的官方文档说明，当前API还不支持对图像质量、尺寸或风格进行调整。此外，用户提交的文字提示可能会由内置的“聊天模型”进行修改和优化。
xAI于2024年10月正式推出了其API服务。随着旗舰模型Grok 3的开发加速，该公司似乎正在寻求更多可能的收入来源。据相关报道，xAI正与潜在投资者讨论一轮高达100亿美元的融资计划，这可能使其估值达到750亿美元。
除此之外，xAI还展现了更大的野心。近期，该公司收购了一家专注于生成式AI视频技术的初创企业，并正在扩建位于孟菲斯的数据中心，以支持多种模型的训练和运行。
Elon Musk's AI company xAI has recently announced the addition of image generation capabilities to its API.
Currently, the API only supports a model named "grok-2-image-1212." Users can input text descriptions and generate up to 10 JPG format images per request, with a limit of 5 requests per second. The cost per image is $0.07.
For comparison, Black Forest Labs, an AI startup that partnered with xAI last year, launched an image generation service on Musk’s social platform X, charging approximately $0.05 per image. Meanwhile, another prominent image model provider, Ideogram, charges as much as $0.08 per image.
According to xAI's official documentation, the current API does not yet support adjustments to image quality, size, or style. Additionally, the text prompts submitted by users may be revised and optimized by an integrated "chat model."
xAI officially launched its API service in October 2024. As the development of its flagship model Grok 3 accelerates, the company appears to be exploring more potential revenue streams. Reports indicate that xAI is in discussions with potential investors for a funding round of up to $10 billion, which could value the company at $75 billion.
Beyond this, xAI has demonstrated even greater ambitions. Recently, the company acquired a startup specializing in generative AI video technology and is expanding its data center in Memphis to support the training and operation of various models.
