Microsoft's Latest Research Report Reveals: 75% of Knowledge Workers Have Used Generative AI in Their Work

Microsoft recently released a research report revealing a significant transformation in the workplace, particularly the widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI) among knowledge workers and its positive impact on productivity. According to the report, the usage of AI has nearly doubled in the past six months, covering up to 75% of knowledge workers. This finding is based on a large-scale survey conducted in 31 countries with over 31,000 participants, combined with usage data from Microsoft 365, LinkedIn, and research collaborations with several large enterprises. The report, released on Wednesday, takes an optimistic view of the role of AI in enhancing productivity and efficiency, aligning with Microsoft's belief that AI will be a key driving force for innovation in knowledge workers' work methods. Furthermore, the research report highlights that "power users" who extensively utilize AI can save over 30 minutes of time daily, validating Microsoft's previous commitment to AI's ability to reduce mundane tasks. It is worth noting that many AI users (approximately 78%) adopt AI tools voluntarily, a trend referred to as "Bring Your Own AI" (BYOAI). While this trend aligns with Microsoft's business model, the company also cautions enterprises that allowing BYOAI may lead to missed strategic AI benefits and increased risks of data leakage. Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced the launch of a new feature called Microsoft 365 Copilot, which serves as the company's flagship AI work tool, aiming to provide powerful AI support for enterprises. The new features include AI-powered auto-completion suggestions, optimized prompt effects, and insights and recommendations for meetings and activities through a new chat interface called "Catch Up." Additionally, LinkedIn's data shows that AI is transforming the job market. More and more job seekers are adding AI skills to their profiles, and job postings mentioning AI have seen a 17% increase in applications. However, as this report is released, Microsoft also faces a challenge: over 45% of respondents globally indicate that they are considering resigning within the next year, the highest proportion since the "Great Reshuffle" in 2021. This suggests that while AI plays a crucial role in improving productivity and efficiency, companies still need to focus on employees' career development and satisfaction to ensure their continued success.
