Windows Latest reports that Microsoft has officially introduced its Cocreator image generation AI feature in the Paint application of Windows 11. This new integrated text-to-image generator is powered by OpenAI's DALL-E 3 model, which was previously only available to Windows Insiders users. As noted by Windows Central, the new Cocreator button in Microsoft Paint has now been widely released, allowing all users to input descriptions of things they imagine and choose from three generated images.
While the image generator is a new feature in Microsoft Paint, the company has already added the text-to-image generation capability of DALL-E 3 to its other services. Microsoft's Bing search chatbot was initially where users input image requests, but now this functionality has been incorporated into the broader Copilot generative AI assistant. OpenAI also provides access to DALL-E 3 for its paid ChatGPT application users.
Although Copilot is powerful and impressive, it can also be somewhat overwhelming. Microsoft has pushed Copilot to numerous products, from Windows 10 to Microsoft 365 services, making it feel like an AI version of the Kool-Aid Man suddenly appearing. However, the combination of Cocreator and Paint seems to be a deliberate choice, as they naturally complement each other, and in the future, the image generator will become the new clip art.
