Earlier this year, DeepSeek sparked market speculation due to its models requiring significantly fewer chips than anticipated, causing fluctuations in NVIDIA's stock price.
Recently, according to a Bloomberg report, Ant Group, a fintech company backed by Alibaba founder Jack Ma, has achieved a significant breakthrough in the artificial intelligence field. By leveraging domestically produced chips from Alibaba and Huawei, Ant Group has developed a method that reduces AI training costs by 20%.
The report states that during Ant Group’s testing, these homegrown chips demonstrated performance comparable to NVIDIA's products.
If these domestic chips gain widespread adoption, they could potentially threaten NVIDIA's current position as the leading producer of popular AI chips.
Nevertheless, NVIDIA chips remain highly sought after, even within the Chinese market. Despite US export restrictions, Chinese buyers are reportedly finding ways to acquire NVIDIA's latest Blackwell chips.
Neither Ant Group nor NVIDIA has commented on the matter.
