A recent report from The Wall Street Journal on Sunday revealed that Apple and Meta have engaged in potential partnership discussions regarding AI functionality. Specifically, Meta appears to have wanted to introduce its own AI chatbot into iOS 18, but Apple has reportedly rejected such collaboration.
Apple has no plans to integrate Meta's chatbot into iOS 18.
Citing its own sources, Bloomberg reported on Monday that Apple rejected the proposal to integrate Meta's AI chatbot with iOS "months ago." The report stated that the two companies had engaged in "preliminary discussions" about the deal, with Apple also seeking partnerships with OpenAI and Google at the time.
One of the reasons Apple decided not to pursue the deal was due to its disagreement with Meta's privacy policy. "Apple currently has no active plans to integrate Llama," the report noted.
At WWDC 2024, Apple announced a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence in iOS 18. When Apple's own AI is unable to answer a question, users will be asked if they would like ChatGPT to provide an answer. Apple stated that more AI platforms will be added in the future for users to choose the one that suits them best.
Apple chose OpenAI as its preferred partner because it believes ChatGPT is currently the best AI chatbot. However, the deal with Google is still in the works.
Apple Intelligence will be launched later this year as part of the iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates. It will initially be available in the US English version and will be compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, as well as iPad and Mac models equipped with M1 chips or newer versions. Support for more languages and regions will be gradually introduced over time.
