Adobe will allow you to create AI-generated images in PDFs - and it's free. Adobe is offering a limited-time free access to the Firefly feature in Acrobat. Here's how to get these upgraded features and what they can do for you.
On Monday, Adobe announced a series of new AI features for its Acrobat PDF software and AI assistant.
This week, Acrobat users will be able to create and edit images directly in PDFs, with support from Adobe's generative AI image model, Firefly. The image editing feature will allow users to enhance existing images using Firefly's capabilities such as generative fill, background removal, erasing, and cropping, while the image generation feature will utilize Firefly to create new images from text prompts.
According to the release notes, "Starting June 18th, all individual Acrobat Standard and Pro users will receive 250 generative credits per month for a limited time to use for image editing and image generation features," but Adobe did not specify how long this offer will last.
As per the announcement, "Acrobat is the first PDF solution to offer in-app image generation capabilities." The editing and generation features are initially available only in English and limited to the desktop version.
The company also announced new features for the Acrobat AI assistant, which allow users to "ask questions, gain insights, and create content based on information in PDF document sets and other documents such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and text files." Previously, the assistant could only analyze one document at a time. Insights will come with citations for users to check attribution, and the AI assistant can also format insights into new content types like emails.
The assistant's meeting summary feature has also been upgraded, adding generative summaries that include key points and action items.
