Google has recently unveiled plans for a new feature set to launch in Google Photos. This feature will introduce an AI Information section for images that have been modified using artificial intelligence (AI), enabling users to gain a clearer understanding of the image's editing history and origin.

According to an official announcement from Google, photos edited with AI-based tools such as Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, and Enhance Details now contain embedded IPTC metadata. This metadata identifies images that have been edited using generative AI. The upcoming feature will display this AI editing information alongside existing data like file name, location, and backup status within the Photos app, offering users a more comprehensive view of their image information.

Notably, this new feature will not only add an AI Information section to image descriptions but also include key fields such as Credit and Digital Source Type. This ensures that when users view AI-edited images, they can easily identify the image's editor and digital source type, among other critical details.

Furthermore, it has been observed that this feature will also apply to AI-generated images. These images will display their IPTC metadata, providing users with additional detailed information about the image's creation and editing process.

In addition to the aforementioned features, Google has stated that images captured using tools like Best Take and Add Me also embed IPTC metadata. These tools employ non-generative functions to seamlessly blend elements from different photos, enhancing the user's photography experience. However, Google has not yet provided a definitive response on whether Google Photos will display this metadata to users.

With the impending release of the new Google Photos feature, users will find it easier to access detailed information about their images' editing history and origins.
